Ticketing System for Ceramics
Because clay cannot be rushed, ticketing systems for ceramic materials are slightly different than elsewhere in PS:1 . Any materials which are free for other members to use are not subject to ticketing. Generally speaking, aside from drying or fired pieces, EVERYTHING should be labelled with a green ticket or it will be treated as communal property. If this is a problem, we suggest purchasing locker access. As ever if you need more time, you can ask the area lead. As long as asks are not excessively large or long, you can likely keep items around for longer.
- Clay
- Raw Clay
- We have a bin designated for individual clay. Individual clay must be labeled with clay type, and date added to the bin. If this begins to overflow we will ask those with clay in the bin to evaluate whether it needs to be stored at PS:1. If no clay can be removed the oldest clay will be red ticketed and subsequently added to the PS:1 member materials or discarded. If this is a problem, you should purchase a locker
- Reclaim Clay
- you must label your bucket with a green ticket and the date you began to fill your reclaim bucket. reclaim buckets must be stored with the other member material buckets. these will not auto expire after three day. Instead if this area begins to overflow, we will red ticket and then begin to discard or reclaim the oldest buckets first. clay reclaimed by volunteers will be added to PS:1 materials or discarded. if this is a problem, you should purchase a locker.
- Once reclaim is on a plaster bat, please label with a green ticket and the type of clay body if not one of the standard PS:1 types. If clay is allowed to go bone dry on a plaster slab during a reclaim, expect that it will be red ticketed, and the volunteers will add it back to a bucket or tote, and you guessed it, add the resulting clay to PS:1 materials or discard it. If this is a problem, you should purchase a locker.
- Raw Clay
- Glaze
- raw materials
- these are subject to the normal green ticketing system
- mixed glaze
- these must be ticketed, and labeled with the recipe, and must be stored in the appropriate member area. Like clay, if the member area begins to overflow, the oldest glazes will be red ticketed and then added to PS:1 materials or discarded. If this is a problem, you should purchase a locker
- raw materials
- Throwing, Trimming, etc Tools
- If a tool is found without its owner, it will be put on the pegboard or in the tool totes and you can find it there. If you want to keep your tools at PS:1 without them being used by others, we suggest you get a storage locker.
- Shared Pottery Shelf
- Wet Greenware
- it will be left alone unless it is overflowing at which point we’ll send out notifications. anything dried will be moved to the dry greenware section, where it will be fired with other pieces.
- dry greenware
- if you don’t want your greenware fired at the typical cone 06 schedules, please label those pieces, otherwise they may be fired along with other members work. ps:1 will clear the pottery shelf periodically, with notices sent out in discord. We encourage people who want to use a kiln on a typical cone 06 schedule but cannot fill it with their own work to fire unlabelled pieces in the dry greenware area. Any unlabeled pieces will be fired with the normal cone six schedule.
- bisque pottery
- This area will be cleared periodically with notifications sent out in discord and pieces red tagged. Red tagged items in small metals will be moved to a red tag shelf. They will stay there for at least three days, likely longer. Once this shelf is overflowing, they will be moved to the salvage shelf. If the salvage shelf is full, THEN they will be discarded, Feel free to collect anything you would like from the salvage shelf if it pleases your eye.
- glazed pottery
- Once an item has been glazed, we will not fire them. You are responsible for glaze firing. We encourage members who want to glaze fire to coordinate with others to fill the kiln. If the area begins to overflow, items will be red tagged and moved to the red tag shelf. Once this shelf is overflowing, they will be moved to the salvage shelf. If the salvage shelf is full, THEN they will be discarded, Feel free to collect anything you would like from the salvage shelf if it pleases your eye.
