Background
Veeam Backup & Replication is the software we use to backup all critical space infrastructure. It has proven to be a reliable and simple tool to ensure the continuity of our infrastructure if something were to happen to our equipment or VMs.
This vote is to purchase 10 additional licenses on top of the 20 I will be purchasing shortly. The total cost of this is $750.
Unbeknownst to me, a vendor messed up in our favor last year and gave us a really good deal on our Veeam licensing. I had been badgering the vendor to get me a quote before the budget vote, but alas they only got back to me today. The vendor has corrected the issue this year and the amount I budgeted for Veeam does not meet our needs for 2020. I am already in the process of purchasing 20 licenses to cover our truly critical infrastructure, but this vote is for an additional 10 licenses to cover our tool computers and development environment. This consists of the two laser computers, the ShopBot, and the plasma cutter. It will also provide us room for future demand. The vendor mix up had given us 40 license instances. We can only purchase them in 10 license increments.
We currently backup -
- 20 VMs
- 14 Critical Production VMs
- 4 Development/Non-Critical VMs
- 12 Workstations
- 4 Tool computers
- 8 General use computers (will be removed under the new licensing model)
Vote Language
Allocate an additional $750 to the CTO budget for the purchase of 10 Veeam Backup & Replication Enterprise Plus licenses.
